Every Word

Ephesians 4:29 (NLT) Don’t use foul or abusive language.  Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

I apply this verse to my life all the time!  In the margin of my Bible, in big bold letters with an arrow pointing to verse 29, it says GOSSIP SCRIPTURE.  This one’s a keeper!

Let everything you say be good and helpful, but that’s not all.  Reread the verse again and notice the connecting words ‘so that’.

Your words have an effect on the people who hear them.  For the next 2 days, pay close attention to your words.  Consider your topics of conversation, your word choices, and your helpfulness (which can include constructive criticism).

Are the people around you encouraged by your words?
