Remembering The Pain

Romans 5:3 (NLT) We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials for we know that they help us develop endurance.

Romans 8:28 (NLT) And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

2 Corinthians 1:4 (NLT) He comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others.  When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

These three verses arrived this morning from different sources to form today’s message.  You know I don’t believe in coincidences.  God arranged these verses because one of you needs to listen.

I recently was forced to remember two painful events in my life that occurred 25-30 years ago.  In both instances, I was devastated.  Crushed.  Desperate.  But I made it through and God tucked those experiences away in my soul.  My heart felt the pain all over again because two young people in my life are going through very similar trials.  My experience uniquely qualifies me to comfort them and affirm their feelings.  My hugs and words cannot take away their pain, but at least they know someone understands and cares.

Similarly, I had the privilege of sharing a joyful experience with a new mother.  Again my heart knew the overwhelming joy.  God brings all of our experiences together for His good purposes.

How are you uniquely qualified to comfort someone?  Are you ready for God to use you?
