What Really Matters

Philippians 1:9-10 (NLT) I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.  For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.

There are many things that matter: family & friends, health, a fully charged device, good grades, career, success, paying the bills, eating well, exercise, safety, church, prayer, helping others, a favorite TV show or sports team, popularity, nice clothes, reliable internet, having a clean house and/or car, a manicured lawn & garden…   What else would you add to this list?  What matters for your life?

What really matters?

Today’s verse says the things that really matter result from overflowing love and deep faith.  Which of the things on your list are a result of your increasing knowledge and understanding of Jesus, His kingdom on earth and His plan for your life?  Which result from setting aside your personal desires, caring deeply for others and taking particular notice of the underprivileged?  Which result from honoring God above all else and making your relationship with Him a priority?  Which result from realizing that everything belongs to God and you are merely called to steward it?

Read the verse one more time, noticing the connecting phrase ‘so that’.  Why is it important to figure out what really matters?
