Just What I Wanted

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. - Jesus
Luke 11:14 (NLT)

I squeezed my daughter in a hug after her year overseas.

She arrived last weekend and I prepared a special homecoming full of her favorite things. I cleared the kitchen table and counters (she’s a little OCD, and I’m not) and arranged peonies in a vase. I filled the fridge with fresh berries and veggies, knowing she has missed good produce, and cooked one of her favorite dinners.

Don’t we know our children well?

We know what they like, and sometimes, we know what they need even if they disagree.

Jesus tells us God knows us even better than we know our kids.

If you have children, imagine it. Consider the ways you know your child’s preferences, the way they walk, their hand gestures, the sound of their voice, and their mood. You certainly know a bit about their heart, but not completely.

God knows you fully.

And He wants to shower you with unique gifts that express His love. He wants to fill you with His Spirit that we know brings power, comfort, guidance, and understanding along with the fruit of that Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control).

It’s a gift better than we could imagine – to those who ask Him.

  1. Welcome Home to your daughter. Great picture. I loved this post. We tend to forget how much our Heavenly Father loves us and looks for ways to show us. May we see it everyday.
