You Are What You Eat

I am the bread of life. –Jesus
John 6:35

You are what you eat.

I have two kinds of kids. One could live on Five Guys and ramen. The other measures every strawberry and ounce of chicken breast. Outwardly, they both look like competitive athletes, but we can’t know if they are reaching their potential. The healthy eater is certainly better positioned.

I can almost hear my mom’s voice scolding “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” I recently began heeding her advice at the recommendation of my trainer who said it would jump start my metabolism and set my body up for the whole day. I always known this to be a good habit, I just wasn’t practicing it. Not until I wanted to reach a goal did I start doing what was necessary.

Guess what?

It works. It’s true.

Jesus knew it too, but He wasn’t talking about food. If we desire to live right and happily with God, and accept the fullness of life He offers, we need the Bread of Life for breakfast.

Is not life more than food? … Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:25, 33

Seek first His Kingdom. Jesus often faced temptation and important decisions by fasting and praying. Fasting can be an effective practice, but we also need a healthy start to every day.

What are you eating for breakfast?

  1. So true. I was a terrible eater. When I began to feed my body good food I felt better. I could think with clarity and I had more energy. I also made it a habit to get up every morning and read the Word. I am spiritually prepared for the day. When I miss a day or two I feel spiritually famished. thank you for this
