An Unexpected Visitor

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. -Jesus
John 14:23(NLT)

I’m a terrible house keeper.

When I know someone’s coming over I swiftly wash dishes, clear counters, and stash laundry out of sight. Many piles of stuff can’t be helped, but I do what I can to tidy up.

When someone stops by unexpectedly, I’m usually embarrassed.

Jesus says He and the Father will come and make their home with each of us.

Is this what you want? Jesus in your space?

If you wander room to room, what would need to be cleaned up before His arrival?

Inspect your house through Jesus’ eyes. What would He think of the conversation around the dinner table, the program on the screen, your wall hangings, the magazines on the coffee table and books on the nightstand, notes posted on the fridge, bills waiting to be paid, bedroom closets…. The whole house!

What if Jesus opened the door to our hearts? What would we try to hide from Him?

Would you be embarrassed if Jesus stopped by unexpectedly?

PS: Discussions about Jesus’ instructions not to do certain things start this week. Attend one discussion or all six to learn how to obey these ‘do not’ commandments that seem so impossible (do not fear, sin, doubt, judge, or worry). We introduce the series Sept 16th from 7-9 at the United Church of Christ in Medfield based on Andy Stanley’s sermons found at NCommandments.org.

  1. I try to ask myself this question daily. I have been embarrassed by my home and my heart. Thank you for the reminder
