What If?

I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders!
Psalm 77:11-14(NLT)

What if?

I challenge my confirmation students.

What if it’s true?

They have grown up hearing Bible stories, learning about God, and that Jesus died for their sin. For most of them, and perhaps for you, this is head knowledge. You’ve learned the information, but haven’t fully processed it. It’s tradition. You’re not sure if you believe it or not.

So I challenge you.

As you gaze at the stars, or listen to ocean waves, or stand atop the mountain summit, or inspect a butterfly, or experience the birth of a child…What if God really did create this gloriously intricate world? Who would that God be? What would He be like? Is there another god as mighty?

What if Jesus really is God’s Son, who walked this earth, demonstrated the character of the Father, then suffered, died and rose to life again so that we could enjoy life in God’s presence?

Open yourself to the possibility that it’s True. What difference would that make in your life?

PS: Discussions about Jesus’ instructions not to do certain things start this week. Attend one discussion or all six to learn how to obey these ‘do not’ commandments that seem so impossible (do not fear, sin, doubt, judge, or worry). We introduce the series Sept 16th from 7-9 at the United Church of Christ in Medfield based on Andy Stanley’s sermons found at
