He's Coming!

The Lord has sent this message to every land:
“Tell the people of Israel, ‘Look, your savior is coming.’”
Isaiah 61:11 (NLT)

We’ve barely cleared the Thanksgiving plates, but the Christmas season is upon us.

The church calls it Advent, the coming of Christ. It is described as a time of waiting, but this is not the kind of waiting you do in line for the cashier. Perhaps a better description is awaiting – actively anticipating His arrival.

Advent involves active waiting.

In my home, active waiting occurs in the days leading up the arrival of guests. The house is tidied and cleaned. A room might be painted and beds made with fresh sheets. Groceries are purchased and meals prepared. Everything and everyone must be ready.

Active waiting also occurs in the last few minutes before their arrival. As final preparations continue, I glance excitedly out the window, listen intently for the sound of a car in the driveway, and closely watch the hands on the clock. I’m looking for signs of their arrival.

I’m sure you’ve anticipated an exciting event too. You know the feeling.

Let’s make this the feeling of Advent!

Let’s prepare our homes, our lives, and our hearts for Jesus. He’s coming!

This year, in addition to the baby Jesus, let’s consider His second coming. Jesus promised He would come again. While we typically celebrate Christmas by remembering His birth, Jesus’ second coming is the arrival we now anticipate.

What preparations need to be made for Jesus’ arrival?

    1. Cherrilynn, Advent means arrival, but during the season of Advent we wait and prepare for the arrival. I hope you have a meaningful Christmas season too!
