Be in the Right Place at the Right Time

[Anna] never left the Temple but stayed there day and night, worshiping God with fasting and prayer. She came along just as Simeon was talking with Mary and Joseph, and she began praising God.
Luke 2:37-38 (NLT)

Anna was in the right place at the right time to meet Jesus.

Was this luck? Not likely.

As Anna went about her daily routine, God was her center. She never left His presence. Anna wasn’t idle, but most likely used her talents to serve at the Temple. Every day she worshiped God with her service, fasting and prayers.

Although there have been times when I felt I lived at the church, it’s not practical for you and me to stay there day and night. We can’t ignore the responsibilities God has given us for our families and jobs.

However, we can make God our center by praying constantly, remaining connected to our faith community, and serving Him with our time and talents. Doing so will position us in the right place at the right time to meet Jesus.

Anna also fasted. By denying her body from sunrise to sunset, she was physically uncomfortable and constantly yearned for food. This perpetual desire paralleled her unmet spiritual needs. Anna was starving for a Savior. And just as our focus on food is acute when we diet, our focus on Jesus is heightened when we yearn for His coming.

What have you learned from Anna’s persistent yearning for Jesus’ arrival?

  1. Cathy, Great post. Thank you. I learned that I want to yearn more for Jesus. I don't want to get caught up in a works based waiting by feeling that I am not doing enough, but I want every fiber of my being to long for His return.

  2. I long for Him and want to stay connected so I'll be ready for His work.
