What's Wrong With Me? I'm Still Hungry

Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 3:65 (NLT)

What’s wrong with me?

I’ve ‘eaten’ the bread of life. I believe in Jesus with my whole heart. And yet spiritually, I sometimes still hunger and thirst. What am I missing?

This verse is perfect, because lately I’ve been hungry all the time! Like surfing the internet, I look around my kitchen for something to satisfy my craving. But nothing does. My trainer says my body is craving protein and hence, losing muscle mass.

Ah-ha! That’s what happens with spiritual hunger.

Our empty, disconnected feeling persists when Jesus and His Word aren’t part of the daily diet. One taste of the Bread of Life doesn’t last a lifetime. To remain satisfied and build strong faith, our souls need to continually feast on His Word and spend time with Him at the table. Jesus is all we need. When we stay with Him, we’ll never be hungry or need any other spiritual food. It doesn’t mean we can stop eating.

What do you think? We’re on this faith journey together, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Does spiritual hunger result from neglecting a consistent diet of time in His presence and His Word?

  1. yes yes and Yes. If I am not in the Word daily I feel dry and lifeless. I would rather skip physical food than the Bible. I pity those around me if I am not in the word.
    Great post my friend.

  2. I'm sure you are faithful and true. I go through spells when I allow my busy life to get in the way. Eventually I wake up to the fact that I'm runnin' on empty and reestablish my habits of being in His Word.
