Everyday, ordinary life

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)

I'm writing from Ethel, Missouri population 62. Actually it's Goldsberry which is too small for a population marker. Cattle and sheep dot the hills beyond the fields nearly ready for haying. Huge rolls of hay form a corral beside the dirt road.  Some family homes decay beneath uncontrolled vines while other farms boast peony and iris blooms.

I'm visiting my missionary friend, Sherri Lile from Cambodia, who is on a home stay.

Sherry followed God's call to serve women far from home. Her life sounds important and impressive. It's a choice most of us feel we couldn't make. But God calls each of us to offer our everyday, ordinary life to His service. Even though we're in familiar surroundings, we must not let our attention stray from God.

Wherever God has placed you, He has a job for you. Does someone need the hope that comes from God's forgiveness?  Do you have opportunities to lift others up or resources to share? Could you mentor a troubled soul?

God uses us right where we are - right where He has placed us.

How will you serve God from your ordinary life today?
